    Find the Right Nuke-Con Job Part 2: The Face of the Weekend

    A number of functions at Nuke-Con involve people-facing work, handling money, and using the computer programs that we’ve developed.

    Registration

    Registration is the first stop for our guests when they come into the convention space.

    Some guests will already have paid for their badges and the volunteers will only need to hand out badge packets (and sometimes tshirts or other merch). Some guests will buy their badges at the door, and volunteers at this position will be taking payment (cash or Square) and entering the guests’ data into our system. Anyone at the Registration desk will be fielding questions from gamers throughout the weekend.

    Since Pre-Reg and Registration are actually two different jobs, let us know which one you’d be more comfortable with.

    Game Registration

    This is where gamers actually sign up for games, and it’s where GMs receive their table rosters and prize Rads. It’s another place where people come to ask questions about the events and about the convention in general. Game Reg takes care of the schedules, assigns the tables, helps find games for people who are looking, and tracks it all for future planning. Volunteers at Game Registration need to be detail oriented and they will work with our proprietary system.

    Prize Vault

    Playing a game is its own reward, right? No? Well, we also have the Prize Vault.

    Every scheduled game at Nuke-Con receives a certain number of Rads to be distributed among the players; the GMs also receive Rads to thank them for their time. The Prize Vault is where people come to spend their Rads on game-related treasures both large and small. This job is mostly watching as people examine the prizes, clarifying how many Rads each prize costs, and taking the Rads in exchange for the prize.

    There is some crossover training among Reg, Game Reg, and Prize Vault.

    Meet the Vendors: Konspiracy Cosplay

    We are a family of cosplayers (Mom & twins) located in South Central South Dakota.  Having cosplayed for about 15 years, we are experienced in sewing, foam smithing, wigs & prop making.  Konspiracy Cosplay is best known in our local area for our whimsical character beanies & block buddies.  We do accept commissions for costumes, wigs & plushies.  We also offer mending & alteration services & are comfortable working with most fabrics.

    Find the Right Nuke-Con Job Part 1: No Experience Needed

    Have you wanted to see what is takes to set up the Nuke-Con? Have you wanted to help out and see what is takes to be a part of the Con? Sign up as a Volunteer and see what we have going on!

    We need people during the Weekend of Games to help with these jobs:

    Set up

    This happens the morning of the convention. Put signs on tables and signposts; prepare Game Reg, Prize Vault, and special event areas; help vendors bring their displays and products into the convention space.

    People are needed Friday from around 10 am to open.

    Runner

    Runners are one way the staff at headquarters keeps in touch with the rest of the convention. Runners check in with the other staff, guests, and other organizations, to make sure their weekend is going well. A runner might run errands for people (at the convention – no need to leave the space!) or keep watch at a booth while the vendor gets something to eat. They check the convention spaces to make sure trash cans aren’t full, that we have plenty of water, that chairs are pushed in and trash is picked up, and that the entire space is generally tidy.

    People are needed throughout the weekend for an hour or so at a time. Ideally, we would like 2-3 people to be available during the busiest hours of the convention.
    Friday open to 8pm
    Saturday 9am to 8pm
    Sunday 9am to 5pm

    Tear Down

    At the end of the weekend we need to put everything back in the box that it came in. During Tear Down we take the signs down; pack up the Prize Vault, Game Reg, and the special event areas; generally tidy up throughout the convention space; help vendors move their gear back to their cars. It’s a frantic but vital activity.

    We need people starting about 5:30 pm and going until we’re done, no later than 7 pm.

    We’ll talk about some other jobs in Parts 2 and 3 later this week.

    Featured Games: D&D Adventurers League

    The D&D Adventurers League (AL) is the current iteration of Organized Play for Dungeons and Dragons Role-Playing Game. Borne in 2014, it captures elements of the former D&D Organized Play iterations; The Role-Playing Game Network, Living Greyhawk and D&D Encounters.  AL provides players with a style of play that allows player characters to participate in a game anywhere in the world, where AL is presented, within a standardized rules set for players and DMs, and with thematically single and multi-table community events. It also forms the framework for the Dungeoncraft adventure design program, which gives content designers the opportunity to create adventures for AL Play.   • Special Guest: Artist Fredd Gorham

    Special Guest: Artist Fredd Gorham

    Fredd has worked as a freelance illustrator for many different comic book and game companies. To name just a few: SwampThing, X-Men, Avengers, Superman, Steve Jackson Games, GURPS, Palladium, Fantasy Flight Games and others.

    In 2012, Fredd started Steel Angel Studios with his wife Linda to promote and sell his artwork in prints, books and other items of interest.

    Fredd is the long-time host of the Artist Jam at Krypton Comics. Its purpose is to promote Omaha’s creative community of artists and like-minded individuals. The Artist Jam occurs every third Saturday of the month from 12noon till 6pm and is free to all ages.

    On top of all that, Fredd is the creator of our mascots Dungin Diceroller, Magenta, and Max Damage, and he has drawn the cover and tshirt art for Nuke-Con since our first convention.

    Tabletop Adventures is a publisher of roleplaying supplements for use with many types of roleplaying games. Based in Lincoln, Nebraska, the company primarily publishes digital material, with some items in print – which are available at Nuke-Con!     While specializing in products that describe features of locations (fantasy cities or dungeons, spooky houses, derelict spaceships), the company also publishes the Against the Darkness Vatican horror roleplaying game and more.
