  • Nuke-Con 2020 Auction Update

    Online Auction!

    Since we’ve moved to a virtual convention for 2020, we’ve decided to hold an auction online as well.  Bring out those games you’ve been wanting to recycle, and the costumes you don’t wear anymore. Crafts, pictures . . . anything game or hobby related is welcome.

    You can see the full rules below, but here are the highlights:

    • Contact auction@nuke-con.com to make arrangements or ask questions.
    • Sellers need to photo and describe their lots, set their prices, and then deliver the merchandise to Nuke-Con by Saturday, September 30. 
    • We’ll post the photos in our Discord server, which is where buyers will post their bids. 
    • Bidding opens at 4 pm on Friday October 2 and ends at 12 noon on Sunday October 4. All bidding will be via the virtual convention Discord channel.
    • Winning bid gets the merch!
    • Payment must be made via PayPal by the end of the convention.
    • Nuke-Con will host a pick-up party on Monday, October 5 from 3 pm to 7 pm in the Crossroads Mall parking lot. Look for the Nuke-Con banner.

    Online Auction Rules:

    • All items submitted for auction will be assessed a fee of $1 per lot. Lots that sell will be assessed a 10% charge.
    • Sellers who choose to offer items for the benefit of Extra Life Omaha Guild will not be assessed either fee.
    • Each lot will be listed in its own Discord channel with photos, description, and the name of the seller. Interested bidders will be able to chat with buyers via Discord to ask questions about the items.
    • Anyone admitted to the convention will be able to bid.
    • Bidders will enter their bids in the chat for that lot’s room. Be careful; once a bid is entered, it can’t be withdrawn. Bids must increase by full-dollar amounts.
    • Sellers are welcome to make announcements in the #general channel on Discord, but please be respectful of other players. No spamming!
    • Sellers have the option to set a buy-out price and if a bidder meets that price the lot is sold and the bidding closes immediately.
    • For all other lots, the high bid when the auction closes at 12 noon on Sunday, October 4 is the winner.
    • Buyers who can’t make the pick-up party will need to contact auction@nuke-con.com to make other arrangements. We will mail packages at the buyer’s expense.

  • 2020 Convention Update

    Good evening, Fellow Gamers.

    I have to announce today that Nuke-Con has decided not to hold a face-to-face convention in October 2020.

    We also decided that we can’t let our 30th Annual Convention disappear with just a whimper, so we’re shifting gears to an online convention. It’ll be the same weekend you’ve been planning for: October 2, 3, and 4, 2020. We’re still working out details, but in the meantime we invite all GMs to talk with us about how to shift your game to one of the many available online platforms.

    We’ll post updates as we finalize details.

    Like you, we’ve been hoping for the best but planning for the worst. The staff talked about better spacing around tables, limiting the number of people at a given table, masks, and disinfectant. We discussed the financial impact to the organization, how much we’ll miss seeing our friends, and what the Nuke-Con community might think of us whichever decision we made. In the end, we decided that we can’t, in good conscience, open an arena for possible – maybe even likely – transmission of disease.

    Nuke-Con 2020 Update

    As most of you know, Nuke-Con is planning for its 30th annual convention in 2020. We’ve been growing our family-friendly game convention bit by bit for all those years.

    It hasn’t always been a smooth path. For instance, when we need to move to a new location we see a dip in attendance for a year or so, until all of our gamers find us again. Our volunteer staff comes and goes, and we have to adjust to the changes. Some years the logistics are a nightmare; some years the con runs so smoothly we wonder why we need staff at all! For all these 30 years, the gamers have been the biggest reason we put in the work to present Nuke-Con. This year’s Covid-19 concerns are posing a whole new set of problems to solve, and it’s you gamers who are top-of-mind while we decide what to do this fall.

    The Nuke-Con staff is continuing to prepare for the convention on October 2, 3, and 4, 2020. However, no one knows what quarantine conditions will be like 5 months from now. If the staff finds that we aren’t able to hold our regular family-friendly, safe weekend of games we may decide, with great reluctance, to cancel the event.

    In the meantime you can help by buying your badges, scheduling your games, contacting your friends about what a great convention we are, and generally acting as though this is a normal year. If we do have to cancel, we’ll refund the cost of your badge or you’ll have the option to roll your badge over to 2021.

    When: Saturday February 1st, 2020 from 10am to 10pm
    Cost: $5.00 at the door. You can get a $1.00 discount by bringing in 2 non-perishable non-expired food items.

    Traveling in for Nuke-Con? Check 511 first.

    If you’re traveling to Nuke-Con from out of town, be aware that parts of I-29 around Omaha/Council Bluffs are closed because of flooding. Given the weather we’re expecting, other roads may have problems as well.

    Check NE 511 or IA 511 for road conditions or detours. Please drive smart and arrive safely! Here is a Google Maps view of the roads around Omaha.

  • Come Run an Event at Nuke-Con 2019

    Come out and help us provide a weekend of games! Every year Nuke-Con hosts hundreds of hours of gaming, providing fun, education, and a family friendly experience for everyone who attends.

    We accept a wide variety of event submissions, from one shot RPG adventures to winner-take-all tournaments and everything in between. Do you have a game you’re play testing? You can show it off and get valuable feedback from our attendees.

  • Play-It-Forward Expo

    Play-It-Forward Expo is a game day sponsored by People Aspiring to Cycle in support of PACE’s Pedestrian Safety Campaign for Papillion. It will be held on August 11, 2018 from 9 am till midnight.

    Come out to play board games, participate in tournaments, and check out their booths and vendors.

    Nuke-Con staff will also be there running games throughout the day.

  • Nuke-Con Magic League

    Do you enjoy playing Magic: the Gathering? Did you have a blast at the last Nuke-Con but couldn’t bear the downtime between games? Do you want to play Magic for prizes but hate tournament rules and restrictions? Enter the Nuke-Con Magic League.

    The Nuke-Con Magic League allows Nuke-Con attendees to enjoy Magic. Players will earn points for awesome prizes by participating in Magic games throughout the convention weekend.

     

    Players will not only earn prizes just for participating, but also for being the player who won the most games, played the most games, taught the most players how to play Magic, destroyed the least land, countered the fewest spells… the list goes on!

    You’re welcome to bring any deck(s) you’d like, casual or competitive, and engage other players in friendly games of Magic to rack up as many points as possible. Any and all formats welcome! In addition to pick-up games, there will also be scheduled Magic events such as drafts and group games.

    There will be a dedicated area set aside for players, but you’re free to play anywhere within the convention space. Grab a result slip from the Magic League Station, fill it out once the game ends, and then turn it back in to receive points. On the last day of the convention, an hour before the convention closes, players will be awarded their prizes.

    Interested? Create a deck and make sure to check in with the Magic League Station at the start of the convention. See you all at Nuke-Con 2018!

  • Nuke-Con 2018 Guest of Honor

    Please welcome Nuke-Con 2018 Guest of Honor: Shawn Merwin!

    Shawn is a Guild Adept with Wizards of the Coast’s DM’s Guild, a Living Campaign Coordinator for Star Trek Adventures, Content Manager for Baldman Games, and Lead Editor for Encoded Designs, a western New York game design and publishing company.

    Shawn has an MFA in Creative Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, an his professional design, development, and editing work in the roleplaying game industry has spanned almost 20 years and over 4 million words of content. His Dungeons & Dragons work has ranged from 3rd to 5th edition, appearing in sourcebooks, adventures, articles, and Organized Play campaigns. For Wizards of the Coast, he has written Dungeon Delve, Assault on Nightwyrm Fortress, and Halls of Undermountain, as well as War of Everlasting Darkness and Against the Cult of Chaos for the D&D Encounters seasons. He has also co-written the D&D Open since its revival in 2016. Shawn has written material for Kobold Press, Pelgrane Press, Modiphius Entertainment, and Kenzer & Co., among others.

    Shawn is also the passionate host of the weekly D&D podcast: Down with D&D.

  • Nuke-Con 2018 Guest of Honor

    Please welcome Nuke-Con 2018 Guest of Honor: Fredd Gorham!

    Fredd is a long-time friend of Nuke-Con and is the genius behind Nuke-Con’s cover and t-shirt art. With over 25 years of experience as a freelance artist his works have appeared in various publications from comics and gaming companies, including Marvel, DC Comics, White Wolf, and many more. Additionally, Fredd recently launched his own business, Steel Angel Studios, through which he sells his artwork and services.

    For the past decade Fredd has hosted The Artist Jam, a free and once-a-month artist gathering held on the 3rd Saturday of every month at Kryption Comics. Fredd is also on the educational board of the Joslyn Art Museum, doing workshops on comics, drawing and visual storytelling for both kids and adults.

    In his spare time, he pesters his wife, Linda, to no end.
